UFC 213 fighters give predictions for Mayweather vs McGregor

Oscar De La Hoya penned a passionate letter last week outlining all the reasons why he was against a fight between mayweather vs conor mcgregor live At the heart of his argument, De La Hoya said that the spectacle between the two fighters could ruin the sanctity of boxing after the sport has enjoyed a banner year with several huge matchups that have already happened with more scheduled before the end of the year.

Of course, De La Hoya also has a vested interest in one of those fights as he will serve as the promoter for the highly anticipated bout between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin later this year.
Funny enough, Alvarez vs. Golovkin is scheduled for September 16 — the same day originally targeted for Mcgregor vs mayweatherbuy PPV On Wednesday, UFC president Dana White called out De La Hoya for his argument against McGregor vs. Mayweather after he was singing a much different tune when touting a potential matchup with his own fighter. To me, it will be a disrespect for boxing if a UFC fighter who has zero experience in boxing came and fought Floyd Mayweather,” De La Hoya said in the video posted by White on Twitter.
The video then cut to four months earlier when De La Hoya had a much different opinion when asked about McGregor venturing into boxing for a super fight.
“Imagine Conor McGregor and Golden Boy [Promotions] coming together. The only fight that I would love to see and it’s the one that makes the most sense, that would be the most exciting, that would be a guaranteed knockout is against “Canelo” Alvarez,” De La Hoya said.
It’s safe to say White had a pretty good idea why De La Hoya was on board for “Canelo” versus McGregor but suddenly has such an issue with the UFC lightweight champion facing off with Mayweather in a bout that will likely generate huge returns on pay-per-view and in live gate with attendance
.Remember when the UFC president was hoping to sit down with Team Mayweatherand try to reach an agreement? That was supposed to happen two weeks ago. The deal between the UFC and McGregor is supposedly done, but as White told MMA Fighting before a Mets game in New York on Wednesday, that conversation still hasn't happened
.“We haven’t even got there yet. We haven’t even talked percentages yet. … Floyd can think whatever, but the machine that the UFC has and Mcgregor vs mayweather PPV Fight  alone is a machine by himself. I think that 50-50 is pretty fair.”White admitted that the blame for these negotiations to actually commence was because he and McGregor hadn't 'got their stuff together,' but now that they reportedly have. However, we're all still waiting.
"We’re ready to go, and I think what we’re looking at in the deal is as fair as fair can be. You’ve gotta understand, Floyd and [Al] Haymon and that group are used to dealing with the scummiest human beings on the planet Earth. I think it’s a little refreshing working with us. And I’m not just being arrogant. They’ve said that to us. I can see it getting done."
John Kavanagh has been by Conor McGregor's side at every fight and will be there again for his bout with Floyd Mayweather Ramsey Cardy/Getty Images
Okamoto: Has there been a moment in which you've asked yourself, 'Am I the right head coach for Conor for this particular fight?'
Kavanagh: Yes, of course. And I removed any ego from that. I feel at this stage, with Conor, I'm not out there on the mat. I'm more of a performance director. I'm seeing the big picture, rather than getting lost in, 'When Floyd puts up the Philly Shell defense and leans on the ropes, we need to do A, B and C.'
When guys get to the level of Conor or [UFC welterweight] Gunnar Nelson, they don't need someone showing them how to do an armbar. They need someone who can manage time, make efficient use of each training session. I've got 50 different boxing coaches messaging me right now and 100 different guys looking for sparring. I'm the filter for that -- to see who it is that will work physically and, just as importantly, personalitywise with Conor. That's my job.
And I want to give a shout to [McGregor's MMA striking coach] Owen Roddy. There's a lot of talk about, 'bring in this guy, bring in that guy.' Owen Roddy has a lot to be praised for in developing Conor into the striker he is today. Conor came into the gym with the gift of being able to hit very hard, which is a great skill and seems to be something people either have or they don't. But when you look at how he's developed from a 17-year-old amateur boxer to a 28-year-old professional Mcgregor vs Floyd Mayweather fighter who flows flawlessly between a taekwondo on-your-toes style to a stalking Thai boxer, that's a huge credit to Owen Roddy.
